About Me

There Is Never an Excuse to ignore High Blood Pressure

I used to thinkt that people in good health just had "healthy genes" and that daily habits didn't affect health very much. Due to that belief, when my doctor diagnosed me with high blood pressure and prescribed a medication to treat it, I didn't take it at first. I soon got a health "wake up call" when I began experiencing chest pains. My wife took me to the ER and, thankfully, they determined I wasn't having a heart attack, like I thought I was. The next day, I began taking my medication and living a healthier lifestyle. Soon, I was able to stop the medication due to my lifestyle changes, but I still monitor my blood pressure at home just to "stay on the safe side." I wanted to share my story to help others and plan to post many more health tips on my new blog.

Welcoming Your Child To The Dentist: Tips To Prepare Them For Their Visit

Are you getting ready to take your child for their first dental visit? Or have they already had their first appointment but you're looking for ways to make the next one go more smoothly? Either way, this post is for you! Here are a few tips to help prepare your child for their next dental visit.

Talk to Them About What the Visit Will Involve

You can help your child feel more comfortable about the upcoming visit by talking to them about what will happen in a positive way. Explain that the dentist will look at their teeth and that they might count them. You might also tell them that the dentist will probably brush their teeth and use a special tool to clean between their teeth.

If your child has any questions, answer them as best you can. It's also a good idea to let them know that they can ask the dentist any questions they have, too. You want them to view this visit as a positive experience and not one to be scared of.

If your child is old enough, you can even show them pictures of what the dentist's office looks like and the dental equipment they're likely to find. This can help them feel more prepared for what to expect.

Promise Them a Reward

One way to motivate your child to cooperate during their dental visit is to promise them a reward if they do a good job. This could be something like a new toy, an extra hour of screen time, or their favorite treat.

It's important to make the reward something that is achievable and to only give it to them if they actually follow through with what you've agreed on. This way, they'll learn that following instructions can lead to positive outcomes. The promise of a reward will make the dental visit something to look forward to rather than dread.

Some parents also like to bring along a special stuffed animal or blanket for their child to hold during the appointment. This can help them feel more comfortable and secure in a new environment.

What you use as a reward or comfort item will depend on your child's age, interests, and what motivates them. But whatever you choose, make sure it's something they'll be excited about.

The next dental visit doesn't have to be a stressful experience for either you or your child. By following these tips, you can help make it a positive and even enjoyable one. And who knows, your child might even look forward to going back to the dentist again. Keep these tips in mind when looking for a kids' dentistry clinic near you.
