About Me

There Is Never an Excuse to ignore High Blood Pressure

I used to thinkt that people in good health just had "healthy genes" and that daily habits didn't affect health very much. Due to that belief, when my doctor diagnosed me with high blood pressure and prescribed a medication to treat it, I didn't take it at first. I soon got a health "wake up call" when I began experiencing chest pains. My wife took me to the ER and, thankfully, they determined I wasn't having a heart attack, like I thought I was. The next day, I began taking my medication and living a healthier lifestyle. Soon, I was able to stop the medication due to my lifestyle changes, but I still monitor my blood pressure at home just to "stay on the safe side." I wanted to share my story to help others and plan to post many more health tips on my new blog.

How Neurology Specialists Help Individuals Manage Certain Conditions

The nervous system is complex and requires specialized care in case of an illness. A neurology specialist treats a wide range of conditions affecting the nervous systems, like brain tumors, stroke, and epilepsy, after a successful diagnosis and assessment. These conditions manifest as blackouts, memory loss, tremors, dizziness, vision loss, or incoherent speech, and it's essential to seek medical help for treatment and management.

Here is how a neurology specialist helps individuals manage certain conditions.

Assessment

A neurology specialist diagnoses and recommends treatment for certain conditions affecting the nervous system, which include the nerves, brain, and spine The symptoms vary among individuals, and they can affect your quality of life. When you check into the clinic, the doctor looks at your medical history and conducts tests to diagnose your condition.

Detailed Tests

During the appointment, the specialist conducts a comprehensive examination to test your reflexes, muscle strength, and coordination. Often various disorders have the same symptoms, and, therefore, there's a need for comprehensive testing. After the test, the specialist recommends the best treatment option depending on your condition. Some of the most common tests include the lumbar puncture test for the spinal fluid and tensilon test to observe the muscle movements. The doctor may also recommend EMG and EEG tests to check brain activity. Other tests include a CT scan, MRI scan, and PET scan for diagnosing the nerve disorder.

Medication and Care

Depending on your condition, the doctor recommends the best treatment option to help relieve the symptoms and improve your quality of life. Some conditions, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, are irreversible but can be managed. Other conditions may be detected during the screening, and the specialist will refer you to the right doctor to handle your situation. For example, for pain management and migraine treatment, your doctor may prescribe medication to offer relief. The nervous system is quite elaborate and is subdivided into various subspecialists. Therefore depending on your condition, you'll get the right neurologist who has specialized in that area. In large medical facilities, you're likely to find a large team of neurology specialists that helps diagnose, treat, and manage various conditions.

As you can see, a neurology specialist helps in diagnosing and recommending treatment for various neurological disorders. If you or your loved one is experiencing symptoms associated with the conditions of the nervous system, you may contact a neurology specialist in your area, such as North Texas Neuroscience Center PA, for specialized care.
