There Is Never an Excuse to ignore High Blood Pressure

I used to thinkt that people in good health just had "healthy genes" and that daily habits didn't affect health very much. Due to that belief, when my doctor diagnosed me with high blood pressure and prescribed a medication to treat it, I didn't take it at first. I soon got a health "wake up call" when I began experiencing chest pains. My wife took me to the ER and, thankfully, they determined I wasn't having a heart attack, like I thought I was. The next day, I began taking my medication and living a healthier lifestyle. Soon, I was able to stop the medication due to my lifestyle changes, but I still monitor my blood pressure at home just to "stay on the safe side." I wanted to share my story to help others and plan to post many more health tips on my new blog.

Getting Care To People That Need It With Air Ambulances

When someone is sick or injured what is a long distance from a local hospital they need me need to be transported with a solution other than a ground ambulance. Air ambulances, helicopters retrofitted to provide advanced medical care, have been in service in many parts of this country for many years. There are many reasons why an air ambulance might be selected to transport patients to the hospital or trauma center.

Remote Accidents and Major Trauma

The most common uses for an air ambulance is to rescue people they're injured in remote areas. Which someone is injured in an area that is nearly impossible to drive into, it is not uncommon for the solution to be the helicopter. Depending on where the incident occurs a search-and-rescue team may choose to extract a victim from the area and meet an air ambulance another location to transfer the patient. In some cases, the air ambulance is involved in the rescue and extraction of the patient. Sometimes the decision is based not on the location or terrain but on the extent of the injury or need for speed when transporting the patient to a hospital or trauma center. In most cases, the rescue personnel on the scene will make the decision and call for the helicopter if needed.

Major Illnesses

Another reason a helicopter or air ambulance may be called in is for a patient having a medical emergency and needing to be transferred very quickly to a hospital. Depending on the air ambulance service, the staffing on board one of these flying ambulances can range from paramedics two nurses and even flight doctors in some cases. Because of the technology that carries on board, and the staffing of the ambulances, the level of care on board the helicopter can rival that of the emergency room in some ways and increase the rate of survivability of things like heart attacks, strokes, and other major illnesses.

Cost Of An Air Ambulance

If you are transported by air to a trauma center or hospital your insurance company may or may not cover the cost. In most cases, as long as it is deemed medically necessary the insurance company will pick up the majority of the cost. If they don't feel that it was medically necessary, they may reject the bill completely. So if you live in a very remote area, you May want to check with your insurance company to find out if they will cover these kinds of cost should they arise.
