There Is Never an Excuse to ignore High Blood Pressure

I used to thinkt that people in good health just had "healthy genes" and that daily habits didn't affect health very much. Due to that belief, when my doctor diagnosed me with high blood pressure and prescribed a medication to treat it, I didn't take it at first. I soon got a health "wake up call" when I began experiencing chest pains. My wife took me to the ER and, thankfully, they determined I wasn't having a heart attack, like I thought I was. The next day, I began taking my medication and living a healthier lifestyle. Soon, I was able to stop the medication due to my lifestyle changes, but I still monitor my blood pressure at home just to "stay on the safe side." I wanted to share my story to help others and plan to post many more health tips on my new blog.

Faqs About Pregnancy-Related Back Pain

Back pain is one of the most common symptoms experienced during pregnancy. Although it is common, you do not have to just accept it. There are treatments available that can possibly lower your pain. If you are pregnant and suffering from back pain, here is what you need to know.

Why Are You Experiencing Back Pain?

Back pain during pregnancy is usually the result of your expanding uterus. As the uterus expands, your abdominal muscles are weakened. When this occurs, your posture is changed. As a result, your back has more stress put onto it, which means pain for you.

The hormonal changes you are going through can also account for some of the pain you are experiencing. As your pregnancy progresses, the changes cause your joints and ligaments from your spine to pelvic bones to loosen. When this happens, it is not uncommon to experience pain in your back, abdomen, and hip area.

What Can You Do?

There are some steps you can take at home to possibly alleviate the pain that you are feeling. For instance, a heating pad or warm bath can provide temporary relief.

You can also make changes to your footwear. The right pair of shoes will help to more evenly shift your body's weight. Instead of opting for shoes with heels, sneakers or flat boots are a better option. If you absolutely need a shoe that offers height, look for shoes that have a rubber sole.

If you continue to experience back pain, you can receive massage therapy from a chiropractor. Massages have been found to be as beneficial as taking over-the-counter pain relievers. Before seeing a chiropractor, consult with your OB/GYN.

When Should You Worry?

Although back pain is common, there are some instances in which you should seek a medical assessment. For instance, if the back pain is accompanied by vaginal bleeding, it could be a sign that there is an underlying condition. Vaginal bleeding and back pain are sometimes signs of preterm labor.

You should also seek treatment if you experience sporadic back pain. The pain could be the result of pregnancy-related arthritis. Depending on the severity of the condition, further treatment might be required. Without proper treatment, the condition could limit your ability to function.

There are many other possible treatments for pregnancy-related back pain. Talk to your OB/GYN and chiropractor to find a solution that works for you and is safe for your unborn child. For more information, contact a clinic like Excellence In Health Chiropractic & Rehab Clinic.
