There Is Never an Excuse to ignore High Blood Pressure

I used to thinkt that people in good health just had "healthy genes" and that daily habits didn't affect health very much. Due to that belief, when my doctor diagnosed me with high blood pressure and prescribed a medication to treat it, I didn't take it at first. I soon got a health "wake up call" when I began experiencing chest pains. My wife took me to the ER and, thankfully, they determined I wasn't having a heart attack, like I thought I was. The next day, I began taking my medication and living a healthier lifestyle. Soon, I was able to stop the medication due to my lifestyle changes, but I still monitor my blood pressure at home just to "stay on the safe side." I wanted to share my story to help others and plan to post many more health tips on my new blog.

5 Tips For Taking Care Of Your Skin During The Winter

The harsh, cold weather during the winter can do some serious damage to your skin. The air inside is just about as bad as the air outside. Luckily, there are some simple and easy things that you can do to ensure your skin is properly taken care of throughout the cold weather season. Here are five tips to keep your skin looking radiant no matter how cold it is or how dry the air is:

1. Keep Your Skin Sufficiently Hydrated.

One of the best ways you can combat the cold weather and keep it from damaging your skin is ensuring that you are consuming plenty of water throughout the day. This helps to keep your skin hydrated from the inside. Water will also help to flush harmful toxins of the body; these would otherwise damage your skin, causing it to appear worn and saggy.

2. Use Moisturizer.

There's nothing wrong with giving your skin an extra layer of protection. This can be done with a daily moisturizer. It will help lock in the natural oils of the skin while also helping to avoid the dry, rough and itchy skin that tends to show up during the winter. Using moisturizer on a daily basis will help keep a beautiful glow to your skin.

3. Avoid Hot Showers.

Nothing is better than a hot shower in the dead middle of winter. However, a hot shower can draw the natural oils out of your skin, which can cause your skin to become dehydrated much quicker. It will also open up your pores, which makes your skin susceptible to damage by the dry air. Opt for warm water in your shower to keep your skin more supple.

4. Minimize Astringents Use.

Astringents are great during the summer because they help to remove excess oil from the face. Unfortunately, this is the last thing you want to do during the winter because it can dry your skin out. Therefore, during the colder weather, you want to limit your use of astringents to ensure your skin gets all of its essential natural oils.

5. Take Oral Antioxidants.

Free radicals can cause some serious damage to your skin and body as a whole. Oral antioxidants can help fight these free radicals from inside, which will protect your skin on the outside. You can opt to take oral supplements or increase your daily intake of certain foods that are packed with antioxidants, such as grapes, blueberries and nuts.

Winter can be hard on your skin, but you can take the necessary steps to ensure that your skin doesn't become a victim of the harsh, dry air. Experts in skin and acne treatment can give you more tips.
