About Me

There Is Never an Excuse to ignore High Blood Pressure

I used to thinkt that people in good health just had "healthy genes" and that daily habits didn't affect health very much. Due to that belief, when my doctor diagnosed me with high blood pressure and prescribed a medication to treat it, I didn't take it at first. I soon got a health "wake up call" when I began experiencing chest pains. My wife took me to the ER and, thankfully, they determined I wasn't having a heart attack, like I thought I was. The next day, I began taking my medication and living a healthier lifestyle. Soon, I was able to stop the medication due to my lifestyle changes, but I still monitor my blood pressure at home just to "stay on the safe side." I wanted to share my story to help others and plan to post many more health tips on my new blog.

Why You Should Consider Vision Therapy For Your Child

If you have a child with vision problems, you've likely already taken them to the optometrist to obtain prescription eyeglasses.  However, eyeglasses are designed to compensate for visual problems; they do not correct them.  When your child removes their glasses, they will have the same vision issues that they had prior to putting them on.  Vision therapy is a great alternative that can possibly go a long way toward correcting your child's vision problems, so that they are able to have good vision, even if their glasses are broken.  Learning more about the benefits of vision therapy can help you determine if you should seek it out for your child today.

Vision Therapy Can Be Likened To Physical Therapy

A good way to look at vision therapy is to compare it to physical therapy.  If a person is involved in a motor vehicle accident where they lose the ability to walk, they will likely be assigned a series of physical therapy sessions.  The goal of the sessions is to re-teach the individual how to walk and stand on their own.  This differs from simply giving the person crutches, a wheelchair or a leg brace.

Vision therapy operates in the same manner.  Rather than merely giving your child glasses, a medical doctor will assign a series of exercises that are designed to build up the muscle behind the eye.  For example, if your child has a problem with focusing, they will attend weekly or bi-weekly sessions during which they will be tasked with focusing on a single object for a stated period of time.  This trains the eye so that even in the absence of glasses, your child's eye is able to remain on the desired object.

Vision Therapy May Be The Key That Helps Your Child Excel

Although some people may not know it, many academic issues have little to do with how intelligent a student really is.  The eyes take in the world, and if your child has serious vision issues, they may not be able to see their academic studies correctly.

An example of this is a child that is dyslexic.  Because they see words and letters backwards, it's entirely possible for them to misread an algebraic equation and fail miserably in the course.  This is not because they aren't smart; it's simply because they cannot see the mathematical problem in the right order.

Vision therapy can be a tremendous help with problems like this.  As the doctor re-teaches your child's eyes how to see, you may be pleasantly surprised at the educational benefits that occur.

Seeking out vision therapy for your child may be the key that unlocks the door to a whole new world for them.  Contact a medical professional today so you and your child can begin enjoying the benefits of vision therapy. Click here for more info on vision therapy.
