About Me

There Is Never an Excuse to ignore High Blood Pressure

I used to thinkt that people in good health just had "healthy genes" and that daily habits didn't affect health very much. Due to that belief, when my doctor diagnosed me with high blood pressure and prescribed a medication to treat it, I didn't take it at first. I soon got a health "wake up call" when I began experiencing chest pains. My wife took me to the ER and, thankfully, they determined I wasn't having a heart attack, like I thought I was. The next day, I began taking my medication and living a healthier lifestyle. Soon, I was able to stop the medication due to my lifestyle changes, but I still monitor my blood pressure at home just to "stay on the safe side." I wanted to share my story to help others and plan to post many more health tips on my new blog.

3 Reasons To Consider Making An Appointment With A Therapist

Therapy can be useful to a variety of individuals and is not reserved only for those who are mentally ill. If you're experiencing major changes in your life, feeling overwhelmed by the stress of juggling work and home, or need some help managing symptoms of depression or anxiety, a therapist can assist you.

There are numerous reasons to consider making an appointment with a therapist, including the following:

Help Coping with a Major Life Change

If you've recently had a death in your family, given birth to or adopted a child, gotten married, or experienced another major life change, you're likely coping with quite a bit of emotional stress. A therapist can help you learn essential tools for coping with anxiety, stress, and anger. When you visit a therapist, you'll talk with him about the emotions that you're experiencing. The therapist will guide you through various methods for experiencing these feelings and then dealing with them in a positive manner. Therapists can help you learn to manage grief, work with you to practice communication skills, and teach you how to handle your anger appropriately.

Assistance Managing Multiple Roles

Adults today are frequently expected to fulfill multiple roles. In a normal day, you may need to switch between the roles of spouse, friend, child, parent, and professional. In some situations, you may even be expected to handle the responsibilities of more than one role at a time. This constant switching can quickly lead to stress and frustration. A therapist can work with you to manage these responsibilities effectively, teaching you coping skills, time management skills, and more.

Help Managing the Symptoms of Mental Illness

Therapy can be extremely helpful for both new and experienced patients. If you've been diagnosed with a mental illness or are interested in obtaining a diagnosis, a therapist can assist you. Individuals that already have a diagnosis can learn tricks and tools for coping with the symptoms of their illness. Individuals who don't yet have a diagnosis can learn these same tips and tools while also working toward a formal diagnosis. In many cases, the therapist can also work with your medical doctor or psychiatrist, providing them with important information that they can use as they prescribe essential medication.

If you're feeling overwhelmed by your life and need some help to get back on track, a therapist may be able to help. Call a local professional today for a therapist referral and to learn how to schedule an initial appointment.
